According to forecasters, 'temperatures will likely continue to be above normal' throughout August. As we head into September, there 'remains potential for further hot spells'. Above average temperatures are also predicted for the early part of September, the Met Office said.

The BBC is to reunite with the Met Office for its weather forecasts and climate updates, eight years after the relationship between the two organisations ended.
