Michigan has independent redistricting and a divided state government that pretty much take it out of the fight over congressional maps before 2026.

In a statement, Texas Democratic Party Chairman Kendall Scudder criticized Republicans for taking up Trump’s project before passing relief packages for victims of the state’s recent floods. He called the map “disgraceful” and a “violation of the Voting Rights Act.”

The Republican-controlled Texas House of Representatives passed Wednesday a redrawn congressional map that creates up to five new winnable GOP seats in Congress, further deepening a national redistricting battle between states.
