The regular monthly update to Java on Visual Studio Code adds support for the latest edition of the language, Java 18.

With the Extension Pack for Java, VS Code makes a highly capable Java IDE and formidable competitor to Eclipse, NetBeans, and IntelliJ IDEA.

To build along with this tutorial, you will need to have Java and Maven installed. You will also need the latest Visual Studio Code distribution for your system, if you don’t already have it.

The latest monthly update of VS Code Java functionality includes new refactoring capabilities, support for Semantic Selection (or Smart Selection) and more.

It will soon be possible to write and edit Java code entirely from within the Visual Studio IDE, thanks to an upgrade of JNBridge's namesake general purpose Java/.NET interoperability tool.
