California Gov. Gavin Newsom using his Democratic supermajority to push a new congressional map that favors Democrats in an effort to nullify the expected new congressional map from Texas.

The vote overcame weeks of protests from House Democrats who fled the state to stall a vote on the mid-cycle redistricting.
