For all of you who have a multimeter thrown in a drawer or toolbox but don’t know how to use it, these instructions will help in your search for missing voltage.

If the light switch is in good order the multimeter will now read a resistance value close to zero. In my case, I logged 0.4 ohm for an old 3-way switch I know works just fine.

You can then use the multimeter’s continuity tester along with a scrap piece of wire that stretches between the two switch boxes to determine the two traveler wires.

You can test a continuity or multimeter by touching the probes together and checking for the light or moving needle.
